ALBANY, NY – Lainey Bochette, a senior at Hoosic Valley High School, has been named as one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2026 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

Lainey, who competes in basketball, golf, softball and volleyball, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets will be available online at Proctors.org soon.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes will be recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. More information is provided at the website: cdswoy.com.

Academically, Lainey maintained a 98.74 GPA while competing in four separate sports at Hoosic Valley. She was an Attendance Officer for both the National Honor Society and the Class of 2026. She also served as the inaugural Treasurer of  the Hoosic Valley Varsity Club. Lainey was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council in her last three years at Hoosic Valley.

Athletically, Lainey played five seasons in three sports and played four sports in her senior year . In basketball, she was a two-time captain and was a Wasaren League Scholar Athlete in the 2025-26 season. Previously she earned league Honorable Mention recognition and was selected twice to the Maple Hill All-Tournament Team. Lainey served as a softball captain for four seasons and was a four-time league First Team All-Star and a Second Team honoree. She was a Section 2 All-Star in 2025 and 2026 and was named to the 518 Futures All-Star Team in both 2025 and 2026. Lainey was named to the Albany Times Union Small School All-Star Team for three seasons, 2023-25. In the fall, she was selected twice to the league All-Star First Team, and the Second Team in another season. Lainey finished her career with over 500 assists and was selected to the Argyle All-Tournament Team in her junior season. She also played on the golf team in her senior season.

Lainey’s community service includes her time organizing and running the Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Schuyler Farms. She volunteered in elementary schools assisting teachers and mentoring students in reading and math. She volunteered at the Schaghticoke Fair supporting the National Honor Society and Student Council, as well as coordinating bake sales and high school bingo nights. Lainey mentored young girls for the Hoosic Valley Athletic Association in basketball and softball and instructed young members of the Capital District Fusion Travel Softball Organization.

Lainey becomes the first Hoosic Valley High School student-athlete selected by CDSWOY. A total of 10 high school and three college female student-athletes will be honored at the August 3 event. The next recipient will be announced on June 29.
