Shynelle Woroniuk of UAlbany Named to CDSWOY 2026 Class

ALBANY, NY – Shynelle Woroniuk, a graduate student at the University at Albany, has been named as one of the three collegiate award recipients for 2026 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

Shynelle, who competes in volleyball, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets will be available online at Proctors.org soon.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes will be recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. More information is provided at the website: cdswoy.com.

Academically, Shynelle was named a 2025 America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete as well as the 2025 SUNY D1Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was a two-time CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District selection and was named to the America East All-Academic team twice. Shynelle was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll four times in her career, and the conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll two times. She was selected to the Dean’s List in eight semesters and received the Graduate Achievement Award (awarded from Human Resources Information System).

Athletically, Shynelle was a captain for four of her five volleyball seasons for UAlbany. She was a two-time America East First Team selection and was named twice to the America East All-Tournament Team. Shynelle consistently posted double-digit kills in three of her four seasons and was a six-rotation starter for three years. Her career statistics include 1,075 kills (3.25 per set), 585 digs (1.77 per set), 101 blocks, 69 aces, 36 assists and 1,196 points.

Shynelle’s community service includes numerous events and volunteering with multiple organizations with UAlbany volleyball. She worked with Community Night, To Life! (fundraiser for breast cancer), We Care (helping sexual assault survivors), Out of the Darkness Walk (for suicide prevention), Light the Night Walk (leukemia and lymphoma), The Red Bookshelf (local non-profit community literacy program), and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. She added two internship-type experiences with UAlbany Athletic Training and the Alps Mountain Farm (with Capital Region Small Business Development Center, helping them secure a loan to assist in opening their business. Shynelle was the UAlbany volleyball Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and helped organize countless community service events and fundraisers over her years with SAAC.

Shynelle becomes the fifth University at Albany student-athlete selected by CDSWOY, joining Ava Poupard (2025), Katie Pascale (2024), Amanda Chambers (2023) and Katie Falotico (2022). A total of 10 high school and three college female student-athletes will be honored at the August 3 event. The next recipient will be announced on
July 1.
