
Brooke Howlan of Schalmont Named to CDSWOY Class of 2026
ALBANY, NY – Brooke Howlan, a senior at Schalmont High School, has been named as one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2026 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.
Brooke, who competes in bowling, softball and volleyball, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets will be available online at Proctors.org soon.
The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes will be recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. More information is provided at the website: cdswoy.com.
Academically, Brooke was a two-time member of the Science Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She was a National Honor Society member in her senior season. Brooke had a 4.0 GPA and ranked 14th out of her class of 123. She earned High Honor recognition in every quarter of her time at Schalmont High School.
Athletically, Brooke earned numerous honors in her three-sport career. In bowling, she was the Section Bowler of the Year by the Albany Times Union and earned first team honors by the publication twice. She was a five-time Colonial Council League first team selection. Her final season average was 226, 13 pins ahead of the next bowler. Brooke advanced to the state tournament three times. Brooke and her teammates won the 2025 state championship from the Section 2 all section team in the Small School Division. Schalmont finished second (2023) and third (2024) in the small school division. Brooke was a four-year softball starter and earned Colonial Council first team all star honors in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She had 36 career varsity pitching victories for Schalmont, with 399 strikeouts. Her senior season featured a 1.11 ERA. She hit over .400 in each of her last three seasons (.409 in 2024, .438 in 2025 and .404 in her final year at Schalmont).
Brooke’s community service included serving as a youth leader for the United States Bowling Congress. This included volunteering, mentoring, event administration and fundraising. She worked with the Rotterdam Community Center Pantry and Egg Hunt and assisted with Guilderland Girls Softball for many seasons with Family Fun Nights, clinics and coaching opportunities. At Schalmont High School, Brooke helped with Red Cross Blood Drives, freshmen orientations, the Student Athletic Association concessions, and homecoming booths. She worked at the Maybee Farms Planting and Creativity Day with the elementary students.
Brooke becomes the first Schalmont High School student-athlete selected by CDSWOY since the inception of the organization in 2020.
A total of 10 high school and three college female student-athletes will be honored at the August 3 event. The next recipient will be announced on July 8.
